Ingredients for Life #86: Living A Raw Foods Life

This week, Romy and Michael are joined by licensed professional counselor Lisa Chapa, who’s recently become Raw Foods Certified!

Lisa talks about what raw food is, how it’s categorized, how they should be cooked, and more. They all talk about how your tastes will change and crave healthier foods when you make a long term habit of eating better, whether juicing or raw food smoothies are better for you, and more.

Smoothie Recipes from this show:

Brownie Bites / Truffles

  • 1 cup walnuts

  • 1 cup raisins
  • 2 Tablespoons cacao powder or more if desired
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla (optional)

In a food processor, using the “s” blade, start with the walnuts and process them until fine. Next add the raisins until a fudgy consistency is reached. Finally, add the cacao and vanilla until completely incorporated. Roll combined mixture into bite-sized balls.

If desired, roll brownie balls in shredded coconut, ground almond, cinnamon, or cacao powder for different flavor combinations.

*note: you can also substitute dates or figs instead of raisins.
*another combination is 1 cup pecans, 1 cup dried cranberries, and 2 TBS cacao powder

Green Smoothie Recipe

  • 1 cup spinach

  • 1 ripe banana
  • 1 cup strawberries
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup ice

Combine all ingredients (in order) into high powered blender. Process until smooth. If using a regular blender, process ingredients separately, then combine.

*note: use a variety of greens (eg. romaine lettuce, chard, collard greens, bok choy, etc.) when making your green smoothies and rotate the types of greens that you use. Also use whatever types of fruits you like (apples, blueberries, peaches, mangos, pears, etc)
