Ingredients for Life #14: Making Time for Exercise

Show Topic: Making Time for Exercise

Romy Nelson is a registered dietetic technician and personal trainer, and this show is about helping people find their path to health and fitness. She specializes in corporate wellness programs to help businesses keep their employees healthy, which helps improves workplace morale and productivity.

In this episode, Romy and Michael discuss things you can do when it seems you don’t have time in your schedule for exercise, and how to set realistic exercise goals, setting a schedule to start with, then increasing the amount of time spent as time goes on.

Listener Questions: Gary from Jacksonville talks about how much the tips in the show have helped him keep on track staying with his routine; Donna in Phoenix wants to know what the rule of thumb is for working out on an empty stomach

Romy and Michael then talk about the reasons people give themselves as to why they don’t or won’t exercise, and several ways to try to overcome that mindset and make those positive changes: grabbing a few minutes whenever you can, creating a routine, having a workout buddy, and more.

  1. Frank says:

Michael said he lacked a sparring partner, yet a couple episodes ago I seem to remember Summer saying she used to compete in full-contact Karate. Surely you guys can get together at some point with all the podcasts I hear your voices on ;)

  2. Summer says:

That might be fun, if Mike didn’t live so far away from me! Our schedules are hopelessly incompatible.

  3. Frank says:

Ooh, good point. I just figured you were occasionally in the same studio because your voice is so clear and un-tin-can-like. Please don’t ruin my illusions further by saying it’s all scripted, you do your lines separately, and then it all gets edited together later :) Or worse, you could reveal that Romy is actually just cleverly edited-together voice samples from a particularly perky GPS unit.

Sorry, it’s true, I am the only person that laughs at my jokes.
