Show Topic: Maintaining and Sustaining the Weight Loss
Romy Nelson is a registered dietetic technician and personal trainer, and this show is about helping people find their path to health and fitness. She specializes in corporate wellness programs to help businesses keep their employees healthy, which helps improves workplace morale and productivity.
In this episode, Romy and Michael chat about the difference between people who lose weight and keep it off and people who lose weight and don’t keep it off.
Michael talks about his fears that he might not be able to keep the weight he’s currently lost off for good, and Romy explains how there tends to be a difference in maintaining permanent weight loss when someone’s lost weight on a program or diet where eating habits were drastically changed temporarily, compared to when someone’s lost weight due to a lifestyle change where the new eating and exercise patterns adopted are easy to maintain and sustain.
Romy and Michael also talk about self-perception and body image, and the importance of the emotional components of the mind-body connection in changing the self perceptions that lead to self-destructive habits resurfacing.
Romy recommends standing in front of a mirror, looking yourself in the eye and telling yourself positive affirmations and taking those steps to necessary to make the mental/emotional shift to become comfortable with yourself no matter what your body shape or size is.
Voicemail: Claire asks if there’s an optimal number of exercises to do per muscle group to do during a workout; Michael asks about the benefits of stretching and maintaing flexibility.
