Show Topic: Vitamin D and Other Supplements
Romy Nelson is a registered dietetic technician and personal trainer, and this show is about helping people find their path to health and fitness. She specializes in corporate wellness programs to help businesses keep their employees healthy, which helps improves workplace morale and productivity.
In this episode, Romy and Michael talk about Vitamin D, especially the impact the addition of Vitamin D has made on Michael’s weight loss progress, and how it helps improve the strength of your immune system.
Sunlight is one source, and despite how much sunlight Arizonans can get, most people are dangerously deficient in Vitamin D. The best sources for Vitamin D are D3 supplements, because you just can’t eat enough fish or nuts to make up the 2000 IU per day that you need to get your levels back up to healthy amounts, and that can help you decrease the amounts of calcium/magnesium supplements you need to take to maintain healthy bone densities.
They also discuss probiotics, and how they are essential to gut health and can assist with digestion issues. Romy recommends Primal Defense and PB8 and Primadophilus as good probiotics for people to take.
Feedback: Gary asks what’s a good way to jump back into an exercise routine, and she recommends tracking your exercise so you can see your progress, or finding an exercise buddy to help keep you accountable;
This tangent leads to a detailed discussion about why exercise alone will not result in effective weight (fat) loss, and how body composition is affected by both exercise and diet.
